Everything new in Season 3 Zombies — Ashwood Survival, Zombie Battle, Survivors of Ash event, Directed Mode, and what's coming at mid-season.
Season 3 delivers the biggest Zombies content drop for Black Ops 7 since launch. The headline additions at launch are the Ashwood Survival Map (the first new Survival map since Season 1), a brand-new competitive mode called Zombie Battle, and the Survivors of Ash challenge event with free cosmetic rewards.
Additionally, Directed Mode arrives for Paradox Junction, giving quest-guided support for the main Easter Egg. The classic 1911 pistol returns — complete with the legendary Mustang & Sally explosive upgrade via Pack-a-Punch. Mid-season will bring the next full round-based story map, Totenreich, set in a Norwegian fishing village trapped in the Dark Aether.
Ashwood is carved from the central grounds of the Ashes of the Damned launch map — a destroyed frontier-era town with houses connected by a bridge, the former sheriff's office where Klaus was held, and a dangerous underground level beneath the town.
You spawn in Rabbit Alley with an immediate objective: clear the zombie infestation from the Power Pump. Once that's done, you can work toward unlocking Pack-a-Punch, Der Wunderfizz, and the Mystery Box. The catch — the Pack-a-Punch machine is located on the ground floor beneath the town, which is perpetually overrun by Fog Zombies with severely limited visibility.
| Milestone | Reward | XP |
|---|---|---|
| Complete Round 10 | "Klaus Der Toten" Animated Emblem | 1,000 |
| Complete Round 25 | "Abomination Carcass" Weapon Charm | 2,500 |
| Complete Round 50 | "Hidden Power" GobbleGum | 5,000 |
| Milestone | Reward | XP |
|---|---|---|
| Round 25 + Tier 1 Relics | "Time Out" GobbleGum | 10,000 |
| Round 50 + Tier 2 Relics | "Perkaholic" GobbleGum | 20,000 |
| Round 75 + Tier 3 Relics | "Mannequin Turret" Weapon Charm | 30,000 |
The Pack-a-Punch area below Ashwood is swarmed with Fog Zombies. Do not casually walk down, use the machine, and expect to walk back up alive. Clear a path first, have Juggernog active, and move fast.
Zombie Battle is a new competitive PvE free-for-all mode for 2–4 players. You share the same physical space while each fighting your own private horde of zombies (color-coded by eye color). The last player standing wins. Think of it as indirect competition — you can't hurt other players, but you can watch them struggle.
| Milestone | Reward |
|---|---|
| Survive past Round 5 | 1× Whimsical GobbleGum |
| Survive past Round 10 | Chance at 2× Whimsical GobbleGums |
| Survive past Round 15 | 2× Guaranteed Whimsical GobbleGums |
Since GobbleGums are restricted and doors are locked, your loadout weapon choice and early-round point management are everything. Prioritize getting wallbuy ammo and perks as fast as possible. The player who establishes an efficient training loop earliest usually wins.
This is a Zombies-exclusive challenge event centered on the new Ashwood Survival map. Complete challenges to earn 7 free rewards including camos, a weapon charm, an emblem, and the Legendary "Deadender" Echo 12 Shotgun Blueprint as the final prize.
| Challenge | Reward |
|---|---|
| Get 15 kills with a single trap, 10 times | "Corpse Wrangler" Emblem |
| Get 1,000 total kills on Ashwood | Weapon Camo |
| Complete special rounds (Ravager rounds) | Weapon Camo |
| Get critical kills (headshots) | Weapon Charm |
| Reach Round 20 on Ashwood | Weapon Camo |
| Complete all above milestones | "Ethereal Barriers" Animated Mastery Camo |
| Complete entire event | Legendary "Deadender" Echo 12 Blueprint |
The trap challenge is the only one that requires deliberate effort. In Ashwood's starting area, there's a lever on the wall costing 2,000 points that activates a spinning trap and plays music to draw zombies in. Stand near the trap so zombies path toward you rather than wandering off. Activate it during high-density rounds for maximum efficiency.
Directed Mode provides on-screen quest step guidance for the Paradox Junction Main Quest, making the Easter Egg significantly more approachable for players who haven't memorized every step. The round cap is set to 15 rounds, so you're working against the clock to complete the quest before the game ends.
| Reward | Type |
|---|---|
| "Timeshatter" Blundergat Wonder Weapon Blueprint | BLUEPRINT |
| "Paradox Junction Directed Mode Completion" Calling Card | CALLING CARD |
| 5,000 XP | XP |
Directed Mode shows you what to do, but you still have to figure out the puzzles yourself. It streamlines navigation, not the thinking. If you've been intimidated by the Paradox Junction Easter Egg, this is the intended on-ramp.
Season 3 introduces 6 new weapons that trickle in through the Battle Pass, events, and weekly challenges. Several are particularly noteworthy for Zombies players.
The Ion Core is a powerful radioactive device that damages enemies in a large area — even through walls. In Zombies, it costs 1,500 Salvage and functions identically to the multiplayer version. Excellent for defending chokepoints during high rounds.
Starting at mid-season, Legacy Weapons will be added to Mystery Boxes across the Dark Aether as Ultra Rarity drops with stats rivaling Wonder Weapons. These are the only way to obtain Ultra-Rarity weapons outside of Cursed Mode. Expect returning classics like the MP40 or Olympia.
Every weapon in Black Ops 7 Zombies has a rarity tier that directly affects its damage output, handling, and overall effectiveness. You can identify a weapon's current rarity by the color glow behind your ammo counter in the HUD, as well as the color displayed on wall-buy outlines and Mystery Box draws. Understanding rarity is essential for high-round survival — a Legendary-tier weapon dramatically outperforms the same gun at Common tier.
| Rarity | Color | Damage Tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | GRAY | Base | Starting loadout weapons. Lowest damage multiplier. |
| Uncommon | GREEN | +25% | First upgrade tier. Wall-buy weapons start here. Noticeable improvement. |
| Rare | BLUE | +50% | Solid mid-game power. Recommended minimum before tackling Round 15+. |
| Epic | PURPLE | +75% | Strong enough for high-round play. Mystery Box starts dropping Epic in later rounds. |
| Legendary | ORANGE | +100% | Highest standard tier. Double base damage. Essential for Round 30+ survival. |
| Ultra | YELLOW | +150% | Reserved for Wonder Weapons. Also unlockable in Cursed Mode (Tier 2 Relics) at Arsenal. |
Rarity upgrades and Pack-a-Punch are separate, stacking systems. Pack-a-Punch (Tiers I–III) adds flat damage bonuses and unique weapon effects, while rarity provides a percentage-based damage multiplier on top of that. For maximum damage, you want both — a Legendary weapon that's been Pack-a-Punched to Tier III is vastly more powerful than either upgrade alone.
Early game, prioritize armor and perks before rarity upgrades — survivability first. Aim for at least Rare (Blue) on your primary weapon by Round 15, and push toward Epic or Legendary before Round 25. Save your Aether Tools for weapons you plan to keep long-term rather than burning them on guns you'll swap out.
In Cursed Mode, activating Tier 2 Relics (6 Relics active) unlocks the Ultra rarity tier at the Arsenal, letting you push standard weapons to Wonder Weapon-level power. This is the only way to reach Ultra on non-Wonder Weapons outside of Legacy Weapon drops from the Mystery Box.
The marquee mid-season addition is Totenreich, a new round-based story map arriving with the Season 3 Reloaded update (estimated late April to mid-May). It continues the Dark Aether narrative and is described as the most atmospheric map in the game so far.
Wildfire field upgrade, additional camos (40+ new camos across modes including new Pack-a-Punch and Relic PAP camos), the Ascent obstacle map for the returning Free Run mode, and the Heat Wave Havoc and Freeze Tag limited-time modes for multiplayer.
The community consensus for Ashwood (and Zombies in general this season):
Juggernog → Stamin-Up → Quick Revive → Speed Cola → Deadshot Daiquiri
Prioritize survivability and mobility first. Speed Cola and Deadshot are quality-of-life upgrades once you're comfortable with your training route.
Since doors are locked and GobbleGums are restricted, your starting loadout matters enormously. Establish a tight training loop in the starting room early. Focus on wallbuy ammo management — running dry is the most common cause of death in the mid-rounds. Ashes of the Damned's starting room is the most forgiving for new players; Astra Malorum's is the most unpredictable.
In standard Ashwood Survival, GobbleGums are available. Bring Perkaholic if you have one for a free full perk loadout. Shopping Free is excellent for the early rounds when every point counts. In Zombie Battle, GobbleGums are disabled entirely — plan accordingly.
